Cincinnati Date Ideas: The History

In Cincinnati, there were many date spots or venue that people talk about even today, although, they are all closed. The Precinct is one of them. It opened in 1981 by the owner, Jeff Ruby. He got the Bengals Cheerleaders to come to his bar opening and offered patrons free drinks and great cocktail deals. He also got the guys at the YMCA located across the street to hang out there after they worked out. That was a smart move by Jeff. In 1983, The Islands opened its doors, welcoming local patrons. It was not long before its opening that the club became one of the hot spots in the area. With other clubs in the downtown area, every weekend was a club hopping scene. The Glass, The Conservatory and Lucy's was some of the other hot spots. All of the bars located on Second Street were demolished, making room for the Paul Brown Stadium.

The Riverfront Coliseum opened in September 1975, but has since changed to the U.S. Bank Arena, which is located next to the Paul Brown Stadium. This arena became the place where the Cincinnati Stingers would play. The arena also hosted political rallies, concerts, figure skating events and tennis tournaments; just to name a few. The arena was over 346,000 square feet, one of the largest indoor facilities in the area. This arena made the Riverfront area vibrant and exciting. Later, it was renamed as Cinergy Field. The age of the stadium caused the sports teams to demand contemporary facilities and so moved to another stadium in August 2000. After that, Cinergy Field was demolished partially, allowing for the construction three years later of the great Cincinnati ball park.

On a different note, the Oyster House was a seafood restaurant opened at specific times during the area; from September through March. Oyster stews were prepared by the owner on a small stove that was placed in front of the window closest to the sidewalk. After a while, business was slow and the owner closed down. Other restaurants that became favorites were Mill's Cafeteria and Hop Off Inn. Mill's Cafeteria was a Dutch restaurant on Fourth Street. Valerio's Italian restaurant was another favorite that soon closed its doors to accommodate the Maissonette. Go to this History of Cincinnati Date Ideas for the details.
