New Jersey Fun Date Ideas: The History

New Jersey was a showboat in the past. It had a lot of clubs and local bars visited by residents and visitors alike. Some were regulars and during those days, cover charges into clubs were inexpensive than they are today. Some clubs had big name celebrities that performed live and this would draw huge crowds. You would experience great live entertainment from bands that performed locally. Some of these bands had groupies that followed them from one state to the next as they performed at different venues. If you were to ask anyone who could get into a New Jersey club during the 70s and 80s, they would tell you about the various music venues and bands that they were able to listen to and the stories would pretty much be uplifting.

The Capitol Theatre, located at Central Avenue and Monroe Street was the concert venue during its latter years of operation. However, it was a movie theatre when it was constructed in 1926. Throughout the 70s and the middle of the 80s, the theatre seated 3,200 patrons. It was well known for its rock concert and the place where rock artists stopped during their nationwide tour. The venue closed its doors in the late 80s because it needed repair. The building was demolished in 1991. Today, the building is occupied by the Capitol Plaza, which is a shopping center. The celebrities that performed there were such like The Grateful Dead, The Stray Cats, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones and Genesis; just to name a few.

In the 1970s, Action Park, an amusement park was the place where locals went to hike or picnic. It was opened in 1978 and closed in 1996, but while opened, there were three different attraction areas, namely Water World, the Alpine Slide and Motor World.
