Utah is one of the states that has had its share of night clubs and bars. Many may remember the Maxim club which opened in 1983 and closed in 1985. Its short run was not as a result of great dancing or pool tables that were almost never used due to the large crowd sizes, but it could be that the club did not serve alcohol, even though, you could smoke. While the building has not been demolished, it is no longer a night club. The Palladium opened its doors in 1985 and closed three years later. While it lasted, the club was considered one of the best in contemporary rock music. If you wanted to dance to punk rock, this was one of the date spots to be in the mid 1980s. There were also live shows that played there such as The Alarm, Art of Noise and The Cure. Today, the spots is strip mall.
The Plastique club was located in Provo, Utah. It opened in 1986 and closed down in 1987. New wave music was usually played by its DJs. People from other cities would make their way to this club each weekend. Even college kids from BYU took to the club on weekends. The tile was black and white and the dance floor was big enough to fit at least 50 people at a time. The dress code can be strict at times. The Terrace Ballroom was demolished in the 1980s and is now a parking lot. It hosted some really special events. While it was opened, it hosted several musical acts and concerts by some great performers such as Grateful Dead.
During the 1980s and 1990s, many remember Club Xenon and its long lines on weekends when everyone was trying to get into the club. This lasted a few years and then the club closed.
